Guiding Signs 101 Cards can be used alone or in groups. I use them both ways. Every day I choose a card for my day. I also use the cards when I have a question I want to explore.
I enjoy using the cards with friends in a group setting. I have found the cards have a way of bringing about deep and meaningful conversations. The other day I had two friends visiting and wanted to share the cards with them. We each took turns drawing a card. The card chosen mirrored so deeply what each woman was experiencing in her life. The cards provided the doorway to very intimate conversation and sharing with each other.
Couples:
Guiding Signs 101 cards are a great way to create deeper connection and intimacy. Remember the old adage that the word “intimacy” means “in to me see.” Asking a question that is relevant to your day, to what you are feeling, to what you most need to know, what is up for you, what most signifies your relationship with each other at this time or what you most need to nurture your relationship…. These are just a few of the many possibilities of questions to explore with each other.
Take turns choosing a card. The person choosing the card- asks the question and then chooses the card and reads the meanings from the guidebook. The other person holds sacred space and listens in silence but full attention. The person who drew the card and shared the meaning now takes time to say how that all reflects with what is going on within them; how it is relevant.
Then the other person takes their turn by doing the exact same thing while their partner holds sacred space of deep attention for them. The last stage is to invite conversation around the cards and what you are both experiencing. This is one way to use the cards for couples. You can come up with your own way that works best for both of you. Try different ways and explore what is your best version!
Family and Parent/Child:
The Guiding Signs 101 cards can be used after school, at dinner or before bed to stimulate connection and communication. If you are using the cards with the whole family each person can take a turn to choose a card. With children you may just want to read the poem that goes with the card and then let your child share how that card and the poem relate to what they are experiencing. You can go around the table and each person choose a card and read the poem and share.
Parent and child:
Before bed or after school, or whenever that perfect moment presents itself. Drawing a card with a parent and child creates a beautiful one on one time with each other.
I have a dear girlfriend who is a therapist and also a mother of a 10 year old daughter. For the past few years they have been playing a board game that calls on you to answer some question truthfully. My friend is amazed at how her daughter and her friends will share the most intimate things through this game that they would never otherwise share on their own. It is amazing how a tool such as this board game or the Guiding Sign cards can create that doorway to sharing with each other.
Questions for families and children:
What guiding sign most embodies the day I have had?
What is the card, the guiding sign, that my highest guides most want me to know? (You can use the language that is most familiar to your family, i.e. angel, the Divine, God, Goddess, Source, my higher self, etc.)
In the morning: what is my card for this day?
What would be most helpful for me right now?
What is my next step?
Holding sacred space of really witnessing your child and giving your full undivided attention in itself is a huge gift. We all want to be heard and seen. You can think of skillful questions you might ask your child such as, “What did you learn from that?” ”What do you think?” ”How will you handle such and such? By asking questions instead of giving advice and trying to fix things you empower your child.
Master Mind Groups:
I have been in a Master Mind group for the past three years with two dear girlfriends. Being in this group with each other has also brought us into a closer intimate relationship of the heart. We have actually changed the name to our Heart Triad. You can google “mastermind group” and find all kinds of great information online to start one yourself. We came together with the intention of helping each other to really succeed in bringing our truest self and deepest dreams forward. It is a way to share what is going on in your life, what dreams you are birthing and to be deeply witnessed and heard. Then to get feedback from your partners to help you in ways you may not have seen or thought of. There are three rounds that take place in our group. The first is that each person has ten minutes to share what is going on with them; what they are bringing forward, their dreams. The second round is where we have 10 minutes each to ask for feedback and ideas and support. In the third round we “see” each other by telling that person what qualities they are already embodying, and being and doing in bringing forward what they have shared. We see their vision as already being in the present moment. It is also a great way to help each other stay accountable and to stay focused on our heart dreams.
In our group we have another step that takes place in the beginning. We draw a divination card which always reflects deeply the current situation and it takes our group into a more authentic place. We have used different cards but now that the Guiding Sign cards have been created we have been able to incorporate them into the wisdom of our group.
Since we started our group we have all found our deepest heart passions that we are bringing forth on our planet at this time. Robin Milam has launched a global campaign to bring about the adoption of Rights of Mother Earth by all Nations. Her team’s vision is to gather 1,000,000 letters written to Presidents and Prime Ministers around the world advocating Rights of Nature. A youth delegation will deliver the letters to the formal assembly of the UN Earth Summit 2012/Rio+20 June 2012 in Rio de Janiero. She invites each of us to write a letter to President Obama and other world leaders advocating the Rights of Nature. More information at www.RightsOfMotherEarth.com. Robin is also Interim Administrative Director for the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature at www.TheRightsofNature.org.
Mary Elizabeth is writing a book Inside the Cave: Finding Your Light in the Dark…and creating a website (www.findingyourlight.me) and courses to help people find their light in dark times they may be going through. She has such a connection to angels and guides and stays in a place of faith and trust, always seeing the bigger picture. She loves inspiring people to connect with their dreams and to know there is a place within that will help them believe they can create them, no matter what is going on in their lives. This mastermind group has helped her stay true to her own dreams of being a writer and speaker and with the help of this Heart Triad, she is now bringing this out into the world.
Therapists or life coaches:
Using the Guiding Signs 101 cards is a perfect way to start a session with a client. Allow the client to choose a card. Set an intention and start the session with powerful questions. You can create an open space for communicating what is current and helping the client get “unstuck” by remembering to ask pertinent questions. The Guiding Signs 101 cards go very deep and yet are playful and delivered in a language that all can relate to.
