Kathleen is currently in Guatemala meeting with 600 Indigenous youth leaders from around the world and Nobel Peace Laureate, Rigoberta Menchú-Tum for a world premiere of the film “Mayan Renaissance.” As the producer of this film, Kathleen felt called to be with the Mayans and global leaders during this powerful time on our planet- the winter solstice on 12/21/12. This winter solstice marks the beginning of a new 26,000 year cycle, called by many as “the golden age” of love, peace and unity. All participating at the event will spend the entire day and night of December 21st, 2012 in sacred ceremony, and will join together to welcome the dawn of a new era for humanity, “Oxlajuj b’aktun”, on the morning of December 22, 2012. Kathleen will be sharing about her experience in the week to come, so check back and join our newsletter for more about her incredible journey with the Mayan’s and youth leaders from around the world.
More about the Film: In collaboration with the creator of the film, PeaceJam.org, Rigoberta Menchú-Tum is using the film as a teaching tool for hundreds of youth leaders. “Mayan Renaissance” documents 4,000 years of Mayan history, from the Mayan point of view, and shares the courageous efforts of the Maya today to create a better future, for all of humanity. Rigoberta Menchú-Tum, featured in the film, ran for President of Guatemala in 2007 and 14 members of her party were assassinated. She ran again in 2011. Not with the expectation of winning but to create the first ever Indigenous People’s party in Central America, giving the Maya a voice in the government and planting seeds of what can be possible in the next 100 years.
